Aurora Nail Art

Hello, all! For today, I have some aurora nail art, inspired by this NASA Photo of the Day picture.

I started with a base of KBShimmer A Roaring Borealis, a deep indigo with green shimmer, holo micro and small glitter, and berry micro glitter. I used two coats of it here, but it’s nearly a one coater (just a touch of unevenness). This was a group custom and is no longer available, but you can join the Facebook group here to keep up with all things KBS!

I added a gradient using Julep Ari (a hot pink jelly) and clear to make the area toward the edge of my nail pinker (which makes more sense if you’ve looked at the picture).

To make the aurora itself, I lightly sponged on a small gradient of China Glaze I’m With the Lifeguard (neon green shimmer), Color Club Meet Me at the Rink (pastel neon blue), and China Glaze Creative Fantasy (royal purple jelly). I tried to keep the gradient fairly uneven and varied in opacity to mimic the aurora in the photo.

And finally, I painted in the trees with a fine detail brush and some black acrylic paint. It was pretty simple to do this look. It just required time (and patience!) for the various layers to dry. I love when simple nail art can make a pretty big impact!

That’s all for today! Thanks for looking!
