Blue and purple reciprocal gradient

Hi, all! For today’s post, I have my first ever attempt at a reciprocal gradient, which is where you do a double layered gradient but flip the colors. Read on to see what I mean!

I started my mani with a base gradient of Zoya Sia, a royal blue creme, and Lidia, an eggplant purple creme. It took three coats to make the gradient opaque.

After adding some quick dry top coat and waiting for it to dry thoroughly, I put on some striping tape and added the gradient over top. I used Estelle, a shimmering metallic royal blue, and Giada, a shimmery eggplant purple, and flipped the colors so the blue ended up on top of the underlying purple.

This gradient took only 2 coats to become fully opaque, and I made sure to pull the striping tape off after finishing each nail. That way you get a clean line. (Except, of course, where the polish decides to seep under the tape…) This had a really cool, duochrome-ish look in person, and I liked the fact that the shimmer added a little something extra.

That’s all for today! Thanks for looking!
